Export Apple Health Workouts to GPX

Turn any route-based workout in Apple Health into a standard GPX file — the GPS track with heart rate embedded — so you can map it, archive it, or move it to another platform.

What is a GPX file?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the universal standard for GPS tracks. A GPX file lists the latitude, longitude, elevation, and timestamp of each point along your route. Workout Exporter writes GPX 1.1 and embeds heart rate using the Garmin TrackPointExtension, so apps that support it can show your HR alongside the route.

Why export your workouts to GPX

Map and replay your route

Open the track in Google Earth, Caltopo, or any mapping tool to see exactly where you went.

Move between platforms

GPX is accepted by Strava, Garmin Connect, and most fitness services — ideal when switching ecosystems.

Own a portable archive

Keep a permanent, vendor-neutral copy of every route instead of trusting it to one app.

How to export from Apple Health

Exporting a GPX takes a few taps and happens entirely on your iPhone — nothing is uploaded.

1

Open the workout

Launch Workout Exporter and tap the route-based workout you want — a run, ride, walk, or hike recorded by your Apple Watch.

2

Tap Export

On the workout detail screen, tap the Export button to open the format menu.

3

Choose GPX (route + heart rate)

Select GPX. The app builds a GPX 1.1 file with your route and embedded heart rate on device.

4

Share or save the file

Use the iOS share sheet to AirDrop it, Save to Files, email it, or send it to another app.

Download a sample file

Frequently asked questions

Does the GPX include heart rate?

Yes. Heart rate is embedded per track point using the Garmin gpxtpx:TrackPointExtension, so compatible apps display HR along the route.

Which apps accept GPX from Apple Health?

Strava, Garmin Connect, Golden Cheetah, Caltopo, Google Earth, and most mapping and endurance tools.

What about indoor workouts with no GPS?

Indoor workouts have no route, so their GPX track is empty. For those, use the CSV or JSON export instead.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is generated on your iPhone and only leaves the device when you choose to share it.
